A Dragon World of Her Own

The heart of this cake was not simply the dragons – it was the little girl sitting among them.

Working from a photograph, I sculpted an edible figure intended to capture the birthday girl herself, from her features and blonde hair to the clothing she was wearing. Human figures require especially delicate work: every small adjustment to the expression, proportions or posture changes the likeness and personality.

Around her, I created an entire two-tier dragon world filled with individually sculpted characters, rocky textures, crystalline blue formations and tiny details waiting to be discovered. The figurines and most of the surrounding decorations were edible.

It was a little bit cake-making and a great deal of miniature sculpture, with many hours invested in the figures alone. Underneath all that artwork was a generous celebration cake made to feed a large gathering of the birthday girl’s friends.
